Carrying Grief and Faith Together: A Reflection on I Can Only Imagine 2
This past weekend we had the chance to watch an early release of I Can Only Imagine 2, and we were genuinely moved. The storytelling, the production, and the emotional weight of this film are powerful. We dare you not to cry.
While the movie is rooted in Christian faith, it’s also incredibly accessible for people who don’t yet know Jesus. The message is deep, but never preachy. Themes of fatherhood, forgiveness, and healing run throughout the story, making it a meaningful experience for families and anyone navigating grief or unresolved pain.
One of the most impactful parts of the film is the presence of Tim Timmons, co‑writer of MercyMe’s hit “Even If.” His unwavering faith in the midst of hardship echoes the endurance of Job. Facing an uncertain future, he continues to trust God wholeheartedly — much like his muse Horatio Spafford, who penned the timeless hymn It Is Well With My Soul in the midst of profound loss.
This movie is a gift.
Go see it for yourself.
Go see it if you’re a parent.
Go see it with your teen if they’re ready for honest conversations and self‑reflection.
It is truly a gift.
The movie opens this week — don’t miss it. (Link to Movie)
God bless you,
